“It’s time we redefined honor. Because honor is not the inheritance of men, everyone should have honor. You should have honor and I SHOULD HAVE HONOR”. - Khalida Brohi

My Story

Many years ago, as my siblings and I lay on stiff jute cots under the neem trees as the stars shined on, my grandmother told stories of ancient times and folklore in Balochistan. In those moments of innocence and wonder, I never thought one day I will have to share my story. Not because it has a magical kingdom and strong warriors, but because it didn’t. The warrior in my story is but a girl scared and shaken by the rules of a society chained in the disguise of an honor that kills and deprives women of their rights. A girl that in the midst of tribal laws, dozens of disagreeing aunts and uncles and complete control of a feudal system decides she will stand up while embracing her true culture and tradition.

While I have shared my journey in detail in my memoir I SHOULD HAVE HONOR, I share small glimpses into my life within these posts below. Hoping that somewhere, someone will benefit from this story.

Motivation/Self-Help

Trying to make a difference while living in a tribal society, I was often disappointed and overwhelmed by the fact that making a difference in a rigid system like that is almost impossible but I never ever gave up. In this blog I share my personal experiences of growing up in the village, learning to love my identity and fight the parts that did not belong in my culture.
